๐ฐ GOLD PRICE (XAU/USD)
Current: $4076.52
๐ High: $4116.30 | ๐ Low: $4052.78
๐ Change: +23.74 (+0.59%)
๐ต US DOLLAR (DXY): 101.3 (ROLLING OVER from one-month high at 101.5 on July 23 -> bearish for dollar, supportive for gold near-term)
๐ฏ KEY LEVELS
๐ด Resistance: $4,116
๐ข Support: $4,052
๐ DAILY BIAS: NEUTRAL
Gold bounced cleanly off the $4,052 open and daily low, tagging $4,116 intraday before sellers showed up at that level again. Price is back mid-range, stuck between the pivot and the upper resistance band. Neither bulls nor bears control this - FOMC Wednesday decides direction. Sit on hands Monday and let the market come to you.
๐ฅ BREAKOUT / PULLBACK SCENARIOS
- Bearish Case (Preferred): Watch for failure at $4,100-$4,116 on any intraday rally attempt. Rejection there with a close back below $4,076 puts $4,052 back in play fast. Lose $4,052 on a daily close and the next support cluster is $4,007. Favor sells on any rip into $4,110-$4,116 with stops above $4,130.
- Bullish Invalidation: A clean daily close above $4,116 shifts structure and opens $4,142 then $4,157. Above $4,157 with volume and bulls target $4,185-$4,200. That scenario needs a dovish FOMC hold or a soft GDP print to fuel the move.
๐ฐ WHAT'S MOVING GOLD
The DXY stalled at 101.3 after running to a one-month high of 101.5 on July 23, giving gold room to breathe. Energy prices are elevated after US-Iran tensions drove blockades of tankers in the Persian Gulf and Red Sea, keeping inflation risk alive and giving the Fed cover to stay hawkish. CME FedWatch puts the probability of a July hold at 64%, but markets are clearly nervous - that probability has collapsed from 87% just ten days ago. Central bank demand remains the structural floor with gold surpassing US Treasuries as the largest category of global official reserves.
โ ๏ธ HIGH-IMPACT EVENT
FOMC rate decision drops Wednesday July 29 at 2PM ET with Fed Chair Kevin Warsh press conference to follow. Markets are pricing a 64% probability the Fed holds at 3.50%-3.75%, but a surprise hike is live. Hot print = dollar spikes, gold sells off hard through $4,052 and targets $4,007. Dovish hold with softer language = dollar dumps, gold breaks $4,116 and accelerates toward $4,157-$4,185.
