๐ฐ GOLD PRICE (XAU/USD)
Current: $4133.48
๐ High: $4146.05 | ๐ Low: $4103.40
๐ Change: +22.61 (+0.55%)
๐ต US DOLLAR (DXY): 102.27 (UP trend, grinding near 18-month highs above 102 -> bearish for gold)
๐ฏ KEY LEVELS
๐ด Resistance: $4,175
๐ข Support: $4,103
๐ DAILY BIAS: BEARISH
Gold sits below the descending trendline and key EMAs on the daily chart. Price reclaimed the $4,103 low intraday but has not broken above $4,157-$4,175 resistance, so sellers stay in control. Favor selling into rallies that stall under $4,175 rather than chasing this bounce.
๐ฅ BREAKOUT / PULLBACK SCENARIOS
- Bearish Case (Preferred): Gold rallies into $4,157-$4,175 and rejects. Shorts are valid there targeting $4,103 first, then $4,060 on a clean breakdown. A daily close below $4,103 accelerates the move toward the $4,060-$4,040 zone.
- Bullish Invalidation: A daily close above $4,205 shifts short-term structure. Bulls then target $4,237 and $4,270. That scenario requires a soft CPI print next week to fuel the move.
๐ฐ WHAT'S MOVING GOLD
FOMC minutes released October 7 showed all 12 Fed members backed September's 25bps hike to 3.75-4.00%, and officials flagged at least one more hike as appropriate by year-end. The 10-year Treasury yield pushed above 5.35%, its highest since 2002, crushing gold's yield advantage. DXY is trading near 102.27, propped up by collapsing euro sentiment tied to French bond spreads, and that dollar bid is gold's ceiling right now. Strait of Hormuz shipping disruptions are providing a geopolitical safe-haven floor, which is the only reason gold hasn't broken $4,100 already.
โ ๏ธ HIGH-IMPACT EVENT
US CPI for September 2026 drops Wednesday, October 14 at 8:30 AM ET. Street consensus is 3.7% YoY versus 3.4% prior. A hot print above 3.7% revives October hike odds, sends yields and DXY higher, and gold breaks $4,103 fast. A soft miss below 3.5% is the only catalyst that can push gold back through $4,175 and give bulls a legitimate shot at $4,237.
