๐ฏ KEY LEVELS
๐ด Resistance: $4,650
๐ข Support: $4,583
๐ DAILY BIAS: BEARISH
Gold printed a nasty reversal candle today. tagged $4,673 at the open and closed near the session low at $4,594. Price is back below the $4,600-$4,610 zone that served as support on the way up. Bears own today's close and short-term momentum has flipped. Favor sells on any intraday rally back into $4,630-$4,650 resistance until PCE and Jackson Hole resolve.
๐ฅ BREAKOUT / PULLBACK SCENARIOS
- Bearish Case (Preferred): Rallies into $4,630-$4,650 are sell setups. Today's close below $4,600 confirms the near-term top is in. Lose $4,583 on a daily close and $4,510 opens next, with $4,441 as the deeper target below that.
- Bullish Invalidation: Bulls need a clean reclaim and daily close above $4,660 to shift bias back up. Above that level, $4,697-$4,700 is the first target and all-time highs come back into view fast.
๐ฐ WHAT'S MOVING GOLD
Gold's rally stalled exactly where it should. at the $4,673 top. as traders stepped back ahead of PCE tomorrow and Warsh's Jackson Hole speech Friday. The Fed is nowhere near cutting, with markets pricing a 38% chance of a September rate HIKE, and that ceiling is real for gold. DXY is parked near 99 and stuck below the 200-day MA, which removes dollar tailwinds for bears but also removes the safe-haven floor bulls need. China's gold imports via Hong Kong jumped 11% month-over-month in July and Iran sanctions tensions keep geopolitical bid alive. those are the only structural reasons bulls can argue against this pullback.
โ ๏ธ HIGH-IMPACT EVENT
PCE Price Index drops Thursday, August 27. This is the Fed's preferred inflation gauge and the last major data point before Warsh speaks Friday at Jackson Hole. A hot PCE print confirms the rate-hike risk the market is already sniffing. gold breaks $4,583 and trades into the $4,440-$4,510 zone fast. A soft print gives bulls ammo to defend $4,583 and attempt a reclaim of $4,630, but it won't save gold if Warsh sounds hawkish Friday.
